Elisa Mazzone

The work of Australian illustrator Elisa Mazzone incorporates stitching, watercolor and fabric collage along with her sketches. They are so so lovely. I wish I could beam myself over to Australia for the upcoming exhibit Once Upon, showcasing some of her work. Sigh...

Man Shops Globe

Have you been watching Man Shops Globe on the Sundance Channel? It's this show about Keith Johnson who is the buyer-at-large for Anthropologie. He has the most AMAZING job. He travels all around the world looking for antiques and one of a kind art pieces to be sold in Anthropologie stores and serve as inspiration for in-house design. He also commissions artists to create original works. The latest episode was about his search for textiles in Istanbul, Turkey. Serious, serious SWOON!! Check it out Wednesdays at 10pm.

Autumn

Today was a truly beautiful autumn day. Here are a few pics I took this morning while on a run in Prospect Park...

I can't stop listening to this song by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. I love it!

Labor of love

Generally, I'm afraid my creativity ends at the kitchen.. but in the last few years, I've become more and more interested in expanding my capabilities concerning food. The more I read about it, the more concerned I become about where our food comes from and how it grows. This year, we joined a CSA, which has been wonderful, if not slightly guilt inducing. When we make some delicious meal from all of our locally grown produce, it not only tastes better, but it feels better too. Unfortunately, the guilt kicks in a week later when I have to throw out an entire bag of something that we just didn't get around to using. This last delivery, we were smart and promptly made a stew out of our bounty. We're learning... Anyway, I'm rambling. The point is that this morning I woke up and decided to bake scones! Though it took me a batch or 2 to figure out the right oven setting in order for them not to brown so quickly (our over is so small that I think it needs to be about 15 degree's cooler than what the recipe calls for), the end product was pretty tasty, if I do say so myself :)

Sigh....

I love looking at pictures of the interiors of people's homes. Especially Swedish people. Design Sponge did a great post on the Dos Family today. Loving all the patterns!

It's already a busy, tiring week. Super busy at work, so the freelance thing isn't happening this week. That's okay. It's short lived. I'll be back on my own in a week or 2. Makes me sleepy though. That and the chilly air that came in tonight...
I love the moodiness of these pics..

Sunday Ceramics

I've been thinking a lot about ceramics lately and how much I miss it. There is something really wonderful about the interaction between your hands and clay. Working with ceramics, I am reminded of the impermanence of things. You can spend so much time working on a piece only to have it be destroyed in the firing process. It is just part of the deal. If that happens, you just break it down and start over again. Perhaps I will look into taking a refresher course...
Here are a few lovely pieces by Isabelle Abramson.

Lonny

First we lost Blueprint.. and then Domino after that. It has not been a good couple of years for shelter magazines. So I was super excited to discover Lonny, a new online-only magazine filled with gorgeous pictures, inspiring ideas and tips for decorating, as well as direct links to shop. Though it isn't a replacement for a print magazine, it certainly seems to fill the void. And if a few trees get saved along the way, that's a good thing too!

October

This weekend we went up to central New York for our friends wedding. They lucked out and had the most gorgeous fall weather - it was truly spectacular! Unfortunately, my camera decided to stop working so the only pictures I got were taken from my iphone.

This is the kitchen of the B&B where we stayed with some friends. We loved it here. Bill and Kathy, the owners of the house, treated us like family and gave us full reign of the house - which is a beautifully restored 1805 federal style home.. we did not want to leave!
