Happy Holidays!

We're off to Idaho to spend the holidays with my husband's family. It's such a lovely getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city. I plan on napping, reading by the fire, crafting with my mother-in-law and possibly skiing (it's been a LONG time) with my father-in-law. I will be back after the New Year. Wishing you and yours a wonderful holiday filled with love and laughter. Peace...

Roots

We should never forget where we come from. Everything we are today is made up of all of the experiences we've had in the past.

Winter Solstice

Happy 1st day of winter! Those of us on the East Coast were walloped with a massive snow storm this weekend that left NYC with a foot of snow! The city under a blanket of snow is just magical. For once everything is serene and quiet. There is a stillness in the city. It is unbelievably peaceful. We rode the storm out at home with some friends, a log on the fire, and lot's of egg nog. It was a great way to get the holiday celebrations under way. Here are some pictures honoring winter, the quiet season..

Recipe Cards

For my bridal shower last year, my dear friend Laura gave me this lovely vintage recipe box filled with wonderful recipes from friends and family.

I've since filled all of the extra recipe cards and was in need of some refills. This is the first set I made:

I had so much fun making these that I've decided to continue on and make a few more designs. Now I need to go find more yummy recipes to fill them with!

Garland DIY

I love this simple garland of fabric remnants and cupcake liners made by the folks over at Sunday Suppers. It's genius! We have a lovely brick fireplace sans mantle. I'm thinking these would dress it up just right... Instructions here.

Beautiful Creatures

I am so enchanted by the work of Abigail Brown. She invents a world of sweet little creatures, each with their own personalities and styles. I love the way she creates texture using layers of fabric and stitches. I want to visit with them in their world so they can tell me all their secrets...

Flower School

There is nothing quite like a lovely display of flowers.. and I don't think there are many people who do it better than Sarah of Saipua in Red Hook. Her shop is SO incredibly gorgeous! Rustic wooden perfection with nooks and crannies filled with handmade soaps, candles and of course the most beautiful floral and fauna throughout.

So I was so excited to find out a few months back that they are now offering classes in flower arranging! I'm going to save up so that I can sign up for one in the spring and hopefully learn some new skills to bring some of this beauty into my own home. These are some pics from the recent Thanksgiving class. So pretty!

1 craft at a time

Remember when I was feeling a little overwhelmed with craft madness? Well, after that I decided the best course of action was to just complete one project at a time. I immersed myself in yarn and went to town on making  pom poms. Here's my holiday wreath:

I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out and love the way it greets me at the front door upon arriving home. Now on to the next project...

Tree time!

We got our tree up this weekend. It's a rather sad little flat sided tree. Perhaps we felt sorry for it on the lot sitting there with all the other grand trees- just hoping that it would get to go home and have sparkly lights strewn upon it- with presents scattered about it's trunk- and a little joy in the hearts of all those who look upon it. Yes, that's what I tell myself every time I look at our little Charlie Brown tree... still it's ours and we love it!

i heart: bangs

I really love bangs. Mostly on girls besides myself. Like them..

pretty contemplative girl

even though bangs are a bit more challenging for me (bossy hairline and fine not-so-thick hair), I'm still tempted.............
